Imagine relaxing in an incredible natural playground where the list of unique and exotic activities literally boggles the mind. • Go fishing in the crystal clear, 200 foot deep waters of beautiful Lake Arenal for it’s famous 15 pound Rainbow Bass and 13 pound wild Tilapia. • Go water skiing in the glass-like waters on the Turtle Cove side of the lake. • Go wind surfing on the other side of the lake, rated one of the top 5 wind surfing spots in the world. • Rent a ski boat, a sail boat, a house boat, a jet ski, a kayak, a fishing boat or a motorized surfboard from the hotel marina and have a ball enjoying this exquisite gift from Mother Nature. • Go scuba diving and visit the site of the old village of Arenal that was flooded when the dam was completed to triple the size of the lake. Most of the town was bulldozed prior to the rise of the water level; however no one wanted to bulldoze the local church. It can still be visited with the proper scuba gear and directions.
• Visit the most active volcano on the planet, Mount Arenal, which has been delighting visitors from all over the world since 1968. Take a guided boat tour to the base of the volcano from the lake, visit the national park at the volcano base by automobile or have dinner at a first class, resort restaurant as the volcano entertains and amazes with its brilliant, fiery display of red molten trails flying out of the peak and exploding on the face of the perfectly conical surface. It is truly the experience of a lifetime. • Visit one of several hot springs that are formed by rivers that emerge from underneath the volcano and have been carved into a series of personal pools each with it’s own separate little waterfall and surrounded by the lush flowers and verdant vegetation of the rain forest. • Take one of the world famous Canopy Tours and enjoy the tremendous vistas of the rain forest mountain tops and get the adrenaline rush of a lifetime as you ride a European style ski lift to the top of a mountain and safely zip down the mountain harnessed to a pulley suspended on a series of cables at 60 miles per hour. It is an experience that you will never, ever forget. • Go horseback riding or rent an ATV to explore the beauty and bio-diversity of the rain forest. • Go hiking and visit one of several spectacular waterfalls that cascade off of the mountain cliffs. Be sure to pack a lunch and enjoy a dip in the refreshing pools at the foot of the waterfall. • Take a guided nature tour on the hanging bridges that span the mountain gorges of the rain forest. Be sure to bring your camera as your experienced and trained eco-guide points out all of the wonders of the plant and animal kingdom with his binoculars and telescope. You may see several species of monkeys (white-faced, howlers etc.), spectacular varieties of birds, various sloths, amazing reptiles, frogs and toads and a diversity of flourishing plants, trees and flowers. • Go white water rafting on one of several mountain rivers into the heart of the rain forest. There are guided tours available for every experience level whether you are a beginner, have some previous experience or are a gung ho professional. It’s hard to think of a more exciting, refreshing way to spend a beautiful day.
• Spend the day in the Cloud Forest of the resort town of Monteverde and see 15 different species of hummingbirds on a local hummingbird ranch or get overwhelmed by the volume and diversity of butterflies at one of the local butterfly preserves. The variety and multiplicity of wildlife species right at your finger tips will leave you in a state of awe and amazement. • Visit the cool, friendly little town of La Fortuna and enjoy a day doing all of the touristy things that some where along the way help define a vacation. Sample the assortment of restaurants and bars and get your souvenir shopping out of the way at the multitude of shops featuring local arts and crafts. There are water parks and discos and just a whole bunch of friendly people. Join the local “Ticos” in the central square, a great place for just relaxing and people watching. • Drive just a few minutes from the hotel and have a fabulous dinner at the darling little Gingerbread Hotel-brand new with just four charming rooms and a cozy little European style bar and restaurant. It is owned and operated by my good friend, Eyal Ben-Menachem, who is a world renowned chef, having operated magnificent restaurants in Chicago, New York and Israel. The Gingerbread was voted one of the top three restaurants in all of Costa Rica. Make a reservation for dinner because he doesn’t serve breakfast or lunch and limits dinner to about 15-16 guests. Believe it or not, his entrees average $14 to $20. • All of this and more is easily accessible within a 2 to 45 minute drive from the hotel.
